Zatec (Louny Region) - The nativity scenes made from gourds, palm leaves or mineral serpentine or talc can be admired from Friday in the K. A. Polanek Regional Museum in Zatec at the exhibition
"FOR THE CHRIST CHILD TO AFRICA". Today, the CTK was informed about it by the Head of Promotion and Exhibitions Department of the Museum Mrs. Jitka Krouzova…

...The collection originated in 1999, when the Tlusty family received from their relative Marie Imbrova, former ambassador to Kenya and Zimbabwe, their first African nativity scene. Since then, the number of them from the black continent increased by another 20...

...During 15 years, the collection expanded to 22 specimens, the latest addition is not even in Zatec exposed. The African cribs were first seen last year in the Louny museum...

...The twenty-one African nativity scenes, according to her, are loaned from the private collection of the Tlusty family from Chotesov in the Litomerice Region and are exposed to the public only for the second time. "They come from Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Botswana," said Krouzova...

During the selection and import of selected pieces they cooperate with Marie Imbrova, the African Studies Expert and the Czech galleries, specializing in African art and craft ...

Article Title: ALREADY FOR THE TWELFTH TIME, DESIGN DOLLS WILL DOMINATE THE CZECH MUSEUM OF MUSIC

Already for the twelfth time, the end of November will belong to an unusual charity auction organized by the Czech UNICEF. During the gala evening of Tuesday, on November 25, from 07:00 pm, an auction of unique and design dolls made by famous personalities will be held in the Czech Museum of Music, in Kampa, whose proceeds will be donated to support the UNICEF immunization programs. The Czech UNICEF Committee announced the project Adopt a doll and save a child in 2002 (for the first time, it was launched in 1988 by the Italian UNICEF Committee under the name Pigott Project)...

The dolls for this auction were prepared by: Jan Cincera, Jitka Cvancarova, Terezie Dobrovolna, Josef Dvorak, Kveta Fialova, The The Generali Foundation, Ivana Gottova, Tereza Herz, Jan Hrebejk, The Tengenenge Friends Club in the Czech Republic (Marie Imbrova), Petr Kalouda, Simona Krainova, The Boutique Weekend Max Mara, The Moser Glass Works, Bara Nesvadbova, The Olympic Committee of the Czech Republic and The Czech Television Sports Department, Libena Rochova, Jan Saudek, Katerina Smolikova, Vladimir Stanek, Robert Vano, Karel Vorisek, Valerie Zawadska. The starting price of dolls is CZK 3 000,--, which is the price of vaccination for 5 children...

The exhibition
"THE MODERN ZIMBABWEAN ART", which was opened to visitors on July 9, 2014 at the Czech Museum of Silver in Kutna Hora, aims to acquaint the public with the contemporary African art represented in painting and sculpture.

Article Title: THE KAURI SHELLS - A FASCINATING AFRICAN CURRENCY

I meet them almost regularly, on the Swahili coast, in the museums in the Western Africa, on the masks of the chiefs from the Central Congo, and finally, in the last row also in the numerous professional publications, which cite from the original historical sources when and how the kauri shells were used, not long ago, as a currency on the coast and even in the inland of the Sub-Saharan Africa, and it's a fascinating knowledge.

The very fact that in Africa the kauri shells were used as means of payment, is not as surprising as the fact that how this business unit of exchange was used for the benefit of the Europeans and Arabian slave traders. The actual findings of the kauri shells in the collections or treasures of the chiefs, if we avoid the Egypt, date back to the 9th century AD and illustrate a little-known fact that the eastern coast of Africa at that time was often frequented by Chinese traders, who brought with them this mean of payment - from the Maldives and the Philippines, and very soon they introduced it into the Trans-African trade...
