Article Title: THE LEVANTINE THALER - THE PRIDE OF EVERY ABYSSINIAN WOMAN

Source: M&B - Journal about Coins, Banknotes and Medals, Volume 6, No. 6/2013, Pages 14 - 15, November 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

It is enough just a quick skim through the travel books on Ethiopia from the middle of the last century, to realize what the Abyssinian women are proud of on the photographs from the city centers, marketplaces, during the family ceremonies or cooking, and with what we meet in most female inhabitants of cities until today.

Most of them have around the neck on a decorative cord or incorporated in the massive jewel at least one levantine thaler with a portrait of Maria Theresa. What is interesting for us as a historical curiosity, for them it is a part of the history of the Ethiopian Empire, the manifestation of the traditional approach to processing and holding of the silver and not the least a sign of belonging to the own family and its faith in the protective power of a jewel...

Source: KOKTEJL - Travelogue Journal, Volume XXII., No. 6/2013, Pages 72 - 73, June 2013/Lenka Stranska

"Human wishes are identical," says Marie Imbrova, an African studies expert. "A man wishes to be loved by someone, to see his children grow up, to leave something after him and to do not disappear from the memory of his descendants. The latest one applies in Africa many times, "she explains.

Doing an interview with Marie is a fulfilled dream of each journalist. She is direct, communicative, willing to share a lot of experiences that did not miss her in the life and work on the Black Continent. Article title: STONE SCULPTURES FROM ZIMBABWE FLEW AROUND THE WORLD

Source: Rozvojovka, No. 2/2013, Theme: Arts and Development, Page 6, June 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

At present, Tengenenge is one of the largest sculpture communities in the world. The locals are dependent on the earnings from unique works of art.

On the territory of the Chinese factory, which prevents the entrance to Tengenenge, is surprising calm this time. Two weeks ago the owner of the business sent all 820 employees working in mining chromium on forced leave. Among them also twenty young men from Tengenenge, who carried out in the factory menial jobs.

In their free time they enjoy the sculpting. This is what a village located about 150 km from the capital Harare made famous...

Article Title: SENEGALESE COINS FROM MARKETS AND BARS

Source: M&B - Journal about Coins, Banknotes and Medals, Volume 6, No. 3/2013, Pages 31 - 33, May 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

My short stays in Senegal, though not frequent, are motivated by visiting my friends, by searching and buying unique necklaces, by stay at places connected with the slave trade, and are conditioned, how else, by sufficiency of cash, or its availability from an European account.

In this regard, I must state that the urbanized areas of Senegal are very friendly to users of accounts, exchange of Euros for local Francs is seamless, courses are not significantly different. In March, the exchange rate fluctuated around 650 Francs for 1 Euro. A stay alone in the towns or at the famous tourist sights is by no means cheap...

Article Title: 20 BIRR, LUCY, 2007 - THE ETHIOPIAN MILLENNIUM COIN

Source: M&B - Journal about Coins, Banknotes and Medals, Volume 6, No. 2/2013, Page 45, March 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

My relationship to African coins is purely laical one. I like if they have a significant minting from which you can read a story and I appreciate when they are made of a metal, which is closest to me, it means the silver. Sometimes, myself I will bring one coin from my own trips and truly exceptionally, I will order it from my African friends. This time, I longed for the silver millennium coin from Ethiopia, perhaps because it has a unique symbolism and an exceptional finish. I gained it in my possession a few days before my January's birthday and it is so beautiful that I included it in the section of unique African artifacts, along with jewels...

Article Title: EMIL HOLUB WATERFALLS

Source: KOKTEJL - Travelogue Journal, Volume XXII., No. 2/2013, Pages 44 - 49, February 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

It is difficult to say what is attracting me to this explorer. His life story, world view, or perhaps shared power of experience. When all this is combined with the beauty of Victoria Falls, it is catered for a perfect African experience.

The first time I stood at the Victoria Falls in 1997. In a local, almost authentic village, I let to make the prophecy from the bones. It was very brief, the whole life you will come back here, said the local oracle in the role of a shaman, and my guide laughed in it. I did not. In the years 2005 - 2008, I worked and lived in Zimbabwe, and now I am returning back constantly for a variety of reasons. To the Victoria Falls then specially because of Emil Holub. This year, it was already the twenty-second visit.

The Town of Victoria Falls is still unable to cope with a bad reputation that Zimbabwe suffered during the last election, even though it has a very good level of service and also a number of foreigners is doing business here, who do not skimp ideas, only to attract paying guests...

Article Title: A HANDFUL OF SMALL COINS CAN BE A CERTAINTY ... ON A VISIT IN KENYA

Source: M&B - Journal about Coins, Banknotes and Medals, Volume 6, No. 1/2013, Pages 44 - 45, January 2013/Dr. Marie Imbrova

Already traditionally, I am spending last Kenyan shillings in Nairobi a few hours before my departure at a local market near the Holiday Inn. Already at the time of purchase I know that I have with me the last money (US Dollar banknotes are in an other wallet, and are reserved for my way to the airport and stay in transit), the suitcase is already full of the local necessities such as glazed ceramics, books, baskets, great Kenyan coffee and tea, so that the purchase is essentially only a ritual. I am clutching in my hand a handful of small coins, and I am sure to buy for them something amazing. But this time it was more complicated, at the end of 2012 there is a deficiency of small coins in Kenya.

The Republic of Kenya issued the first own coins in 1966 and were in denominations of 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents, then other values were 1 and 2 Kenyan shillings. In 1973 and 1985, there were added to this basic line two coinages of a coin in the value of five shillings, and in 1994, there was added a favorite 10 shillings coin and in 1998, finally, a coin in the value of 20 shillings appeared...
